Synonyms: copolymer of acrylic-acrylate-sulfonate, AA-AMPS; AA-AMPSA; Acrylic Acid-2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropane Sulfonic Acid Copolymer; Sulfonated Polyacrylic Acid Copolymer
Briteframe AA/AMPS combines the carboxylic group of the acrylic acid with the sulphonic acid. The carboxylic group facilitates scale inhibition and dispersion whereas the sulphoic group offer a strong polarity and thus an excellent water solubility. This copolymer is an ideal combination for high calcium tolerance and good scale inhibition for calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, zinc scales and ferric oxides. It can be used as scale inhibitor and dispersant in high pH and high concentration situations. Applications are in cooling water, oilfield refilling water, metallurgical processes and in iron/steel equipment. Briteframe AA/AMPS is also a dying auxiliary for textiles.
R22: Harmful if swallowed
R36: Irritating to eyes
R38: Irritating to skin
In water treatment mixtures containing organophosphines, Briteframe AA/AMPS synergistically stabilizes corrosion inhibitors like phosphates, zinc and phosphonates.
The recommended pH in water treatment is 7 – 9.5
